Why do we need public art?
a personal statement.
Public art can play an important role in social interaction; create opportunities for human connection, promote happiness and help vibrant neighbourhoods to develop.
Public art can also express community values, enhance our environment, transform a landscape, heighten our awareness, question our assumptions and express community values.
Public art can be enormous or tiny; it can tower above us or draw our attention to the pavement beneath your feet.
Any public artwork will not appeal to everyone, nor should it be expected to do so. Varied popular opinion is inevitable, and it is a healthy sign that the public environment is acknowledged rather than ignored. So be bold, be committed, and be prepared to compromise.
